MUMBAI, February 5: As expected, the seeded players found their respective places in the quarter-finals of the ABN-Amro and Kores India-sponsored All India Ladies Golf Championship at the Bombay Presidency Golf Course here today.

It was the lady from Chennai — Urvashi Sethi-Sodhi — who gained the easiest victory of the day, beating Mumbai’s Baby Malkhani.

Pragya Mishra of Chennai, who played so well yesterday, met her waterloo against defending champion Vandana Aggrawal (Calcutta). But the 13-year-old’s entry into the silver division was nevertheless encouraging as she after being four down at the turn held on to take the match to the 14th hole before losing 5 and 4.

Favourite, Parnita Garewal, who won the Billoo Sethi Trophy in which she broke the course record with a three under 69, did not to push herself while ending her match against Neesha Mendes D’Silva (Mumbai) on the 12th. She was 4 up at the turn and eventually won 7 and 6.

Two other local golfers, Bunty Khanna and Rani Goenka-Maheswaridid not fulfil their engagements because of indisposition and while there may be have been not much doubt that Anjali Chopra (Delhi), runner up at the Billoo Sethi Trophy, would have come to out to the top. The five-time former champion will come up against Urvashi Sethi-Sodhi, the 1996 winner, in the next round, and this clash should be the closest tomorrow.

Competition in the Vikramaditya Trophy for bronze division players (Handicap 19 to 29) was close with Situ Puri got the better of the more experienced Mrinalini Kochar and in the other Tara Halwasya was extended by Asha Sehgal.

The easiest victory in the position was gained by Rani Rajgopal Of Malaysia, who showeda step-up on her earlier form by disposing off Mehrod Irani, 7 and 6.

In the bogey competition, for the first-round losers Radha Singh won the event with a score of plus 2. The runner-up was Jyothi Malhotra with minus 1displaying Ritu Lumba on the counterback.
