
Dean gets relief in contempt case
Baroda Medical College dean Dr D N Shah, who was sentenced to five days8217; civil imprisonment by a local court, got relief from Gujarat High Court on Tuesday when Justice M S Shah stayed the sentence till October 11. The order came on an appeal filed before the court. The case will come up for hearing again on October 11. On Monday, civil judge Narendra Nayak had issued an arrest warrant against the Dean as he had failed to surrender before the court in a contempt of court case.
Air Force Day
Indian Air Force personnel and their family members will hold a special week-long programme to mark the Air Force Day. According to an official release, several programmes commemorating the Air Force Day would be flagged off after the opening of a two-day Air Force Mela at the IAF station, Makarpura, by Air Commodore P P Rajkumar. The Mela, which is open to the general public, will include raffles and static displays of different types of aircraft and other weaponry.
SSG rapped
The Dardi Suraksha Samiti on Wednesday rapped the Sir Sayaji General Hospital administration for lack of facilities. In a statement, the Samiti alleged that conditions at the hospital were unhygienic, and that hospital authorities had failed to take cognisance of problems being faced by patients.
TQM meet
Senior executives from several leading industries participated in the pre-convention seminar on Total Quality Management, organised by the city chapter of the Quality Circle Forum of India on Tuesday. A forum press note said case studies were presented by several industrial houses like IOCL, Gujarat Refinery, ABB, Sumul Dairy, FAG, Apollo Tyres and Lakhanpal National Limited during the seminar.
Awareness camp
Officials of the Weight and Measures department held an educative programme at C N Baxi School, Jabugam village, Jetpurpavi taluka of the district recently, during which students were made aware of various methods adopted by unscrupulous businessmen to cheat customers, a release said.
VCARE schemes
The Vadodara Centre for Animal Rescue and Emergency will organise two schemes to control rabies in the city. Under the first scheme, the organisation will vaccinate stray dogs with the co-operation of residents. Under the second scheme, free anti-rabies vaccinations will be provided at the Veterinary Polyclinic, near Shastri Bridge. For further information contact 354825.
Convention
As part of the 28th annual convention, the Shree Arvind Kendra will organise a three-day programme from Saturday. According to the organisers, Dwarkeshlal Jee Maharaj will inaugurate the function at Shree Arvind Niwas, Dandia Bazar, at 9.30 am. It will be presided over by Ambapremi Shah; the chief guest will be M S University Vice-Chancellor Anil Kane.
