Uttarakhand forest authorities have decided to establish ‘communication points’ which will act checkposts where people can complain and seek redressal about the damage done to their fields and livestock by wild animals. This is being done to check the deaths of wild animals, particularly elephants, due to electrocution by fences put up by farmers to save their fields.
Uttarakhand’s Chief Wildife Warden S K Chandola told The Indian Express, “Anybody having any problem regarding the animals should approach us instead of taking law into his own hands.” Two such points are being set up in Chedderwala in Dehradun and Gaindikhatta in Hardwar district.
