KANPUR, Feb 16: Half centuries by Rakesh Sharma (84) and Gyanendra Pandey (64 batting) kept hosts Uttar Pradesh in the hunt for a first innings lead over Maharashtra as they finished the third day on 267 for four in their Ranji Trophy Super League cricket tie here today.

The hosts still 116 runs behind Maharashtra’s 383 and have six wickets in hand. At stumps Rahul Sapru with 33 was batting with Pandey.

Resuming on their overnight 85 for one, UP employed a cautious approach and scored just 182 runs in 90 overs.

They lost two wickets in the pre-lunch session — that of Saurabh Shukla, who made a fine century against Tamil Nadu in the first Super League match, after adding just 25 runs to his overnight 8.

He was bowled by Milind Kulkarni.

Kulkarni struck again when of the very next ball he trapped Rizwan Shamshad leg before for no score.
