CHANDIGARH, Jan 25: A protest march was held by the UT Building Maintenance Workers in protest against the non-acceptance of their demands from Sector 16 to the Chandigarh Housing Board Roundabout today.

The demands of the workers include grant of bonus for the year 1997-98, regularisation of daily wagers, promotion after a service period of 4, 9 and 14 years, filling of vacant posts, grant of medical allowance, conveyance allowance, filling of vacant posts and abolition of the contract system.

The workers with black banners in their hands marched towards the CHB roundabout raising slogans against the administration. Addressing the rally, Ramesh Kumar Chandoliya the president of the union criticised the Chandigarh Administration for not releasing the bonus which has already been sanctioned as per the circular dated November 20, 1998, and urged the administration to take quick measures.
