CPI national secretary A B Bardhan on Saturday alleged that the US was trying to blackmail India over the nuclear deal and maintained there was no question of the Left allowing the UPA Government to push the 123 agreement through.

He was delivering the inaugural address at the CPI state conference which began at Thrissur on Saturday. Calling for a strong resistance against the continuing US interferences in India’s foreign policy, Bardhan said this had all the makings of a blackmail attempt by the US and India needed to keep away from that country.

Expectably, the party working report to be debated at the conference reportedly slams the state leadership of Left partner CPM, with which the CPI has been involved in frequent spats for pulling the rug from under the CPI candidates in three Assembly constituencies last poll, besides squarely blaming the factional strife within the CPM for Left front candidates in four other constituencies failing to win.

Before it ends on March 4, the conference is expected to discuss at length its roller coaster relations with the CPM, and the many differences with the latter that the party has been forced to live with in the state Government.
