BEIJING, DECEMBER 16: China will get 28 million dollars as compensation from the United States for NATO’s bombing of its embassy in Belgrade during the alliance’s attack on Yugoslavia, it was officially announced here today.

The agreement on the compensation amount arrived this morning after the 3-day fifth round of negotiations with visiting US state department legal advisor David Andrews, Chinese foreign ministry spokesman Zhu Bangzao said.

The sum, he said, was in addition to the 4.5 million dollar package agreed by the US in July for the deaths of three Chinese and injuries to 20 following NATO’s bombing of the embassy on May 7.

Official sources said the Sino-US talks included negotiations on compensation to US diplomatic missions in China damaged in anti-American protests in the wake of the embassy bombing.
