US criticises Musharraf for emergency in Pak

The White House termed the imposition of a state of emergency in Pakistan as "very disappointing" and asked President Pervez Musharraf to keep his promise of holding elections by January.

The White House termed the imposition of a state of emergency in Pakistan as “very disappointing” and asked President Pervez Musharraf to keep his promise of holding elections by January.

“This action is very disappointing. President Musharraf needs to stand by his pledges to have free and fair elections in January and step down as Chief of Army Staff before retaking the Presidential oath of office,” White House spokesman Gordon Johndroe said in a statement.

“All parties involved should move along the democratic path peacefully and quickly” he said.
