The UPA will not project anybody as its chief ministerial candidate in the coming Bihar polls, Congress general secretary in-charge of the state Digvijay Singh said today.

‘‘There is no need to project anybody as the chief ministerial candidate as we are going to polls on ideological issues where individuals become secondary. The issue should be addressed when the alliance secures a majority,” Singh said.

Singh said he had “positive” talks with leaders of RJD, NCP and CPI-M on electoral alliances and negotiations with LJP chief Ram Vilas Paswan will take place after his recovers from illness. “Other secular parties may also be contacted,” he said.

Asked if the RJD was willing to join hands with Paswan, he said: ‘‘Leaders of all these parties have said they would fight together against communal forces. I don’t see any reason why the two leaders who fought the Lok Sabha polls unitedly cannot come together to contest the Assembly polls.”
