With a UPA nominee appointed as Governor, the UP unit of the Congress has decided to take its campaign against the Mulayam Singh Yadav government a step further.
The party plans to hold a week-long agitation at the tehsil level from July to 19 which will be used to take on the state government on the ‘‘poor’’ law and order situation, non-availability of power and potable water.
A 20-member team comprising state leaders has been formed to ensure the participation of at least one of the senior leaders in the agitation at every tehsil.
‘‘We are going against the Mulayam government in full steam because it has failed on all fronts. The state is being ruled by anti-social elements. Murders and rape have become the order of the day. We are fighting for the cause of the common man who is feeling insecure in such a regime,’’ said state Congress chief Jagdambika Pal.
The Congress has also made it clear that it would work on developing a rapport with the new Governor, T.S. Rajeswar, so that their protests are heard at the Centre. Not only were all top leaders of the Congress present at the Governor’s oath-taking ceremony on Thursday, but they also sought appointments with him later.
