NEW DELHI, DEC 2: Enraged over Kalyan Singh’s continued tirade against Prime Minister Atal Behari Vajpayee even after his suspension from the party, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leadership has decided to conclude the issue by expelling him.
The party’s Disciplinary Action Committee (DAC) headed by J P Mathur is to meet shortly to take cognisance of Kalyan’s utterances after he was suspended for his anti-party activities. It is learnt that Kalyan will be expelled on December 6 when the DAC is likely to meet to take up the issue. However, when contacted, Mathur declined to comment saying that no date has been fixed for the DAC meeting. The other members of the DAC are Union Minister for Labour Satyanarain Jatiya, Minister of State for Power Jayawantiben Mehta, Rajya Sabha MP O P Kohli and Vijay Shanker Dubey, a Bihar advocate.
Since the former Uttar Pradesh chief minister has declared his decision to float a separate political party and also continues to blast the party leadership, it is felt thatsooner he is expelled the better it would be for the BJP.
Kalyan is understood to have replied to the points raised in the suspension order issued by the BJP chief Kushabhau Thackre last week. But what shocked the leadership most was his continued defiance of the party high command and dragging the Prime Minister’s name in a manner unbecoming of a person who was a Chief Minister for several years.
An indication of action against Kalyan also came from BJP general secretary Govindacharya, who said in Kanpur on Friday that under the prevailing circumstances any rapproachment with Kalyan seems impossible "as he has gone out of limit."
Govindacharya welcomed the statement of state BJP chief Rajnath Singh that there was no other alternative but to expel Kalyan from the party. The BJP leadership is keen to sort out the Kalyan Singh issue at the earliest, before he is able to win over party MLAs to pull down the government in UP during the suspension period. The party is willing to take this calculated riskafter sounding out its allies. After studying the Ayodhya issue being raised by Kalyan it had concluded that it would not carry any conviction with the people.
Kalyan’s decision to harp on the mandir issue would also isolate himpolitically.
The Samajwadi Party has already declared that it would have no truck with Kalyan Singh if he raised the mandir issue and Kalyan cannot dump it either. This is the only political issue he can launch his campaign against the BJP.
Kalyan’s volte-face
LUCKNOW: Kalyan Singh on Wednesday did a volte-face stating that he was not interested in toppling the Ram Prakash Gupta Ministry. Just two days ago, he had threatened to pull down UP Govt. He did not even attack the Prime Minister. He made the statement after talks with two aides of the party high command, Dinanath Mishra and Balbir Punj on Thursday.
