UDHAMPUR, June 14: Accusing Pakistan of betrayal, the Prime Minister Atal Behari Vajpayee, today said that unprovoked shelling by its troops on this side of the border, other than Kargil, will not remain a one-sided affair.Pakistan was trying to indulge in ``mischief'' by opening new fronts like Rajouri and Poonch, as the Army has not only stopped further advancement of its troops, but is also pushing them back in Kargil, he said while addressing his first ever public meeting here after becoming the Prime Minister. ``This will not remain a one-sided affair,'' he said and added that every challenge posed by them will be replied effectively. The Prime Minister also referred to the telephonic conversation with his Pakistani counterpart, Nawaz Sharief, saying that he had rang him up at Srinagar yesterday and asked for not letting the situation escalate. ``However, I asked him as to who had started it. I told him that you had begun it by sending the troops and now you should withdraw them first,'' headded. In his 15 minute speech, Vajpayee said that ``we had gone to Lahore with a message of peace and friendship, but had never imagined that this road to Lahore will go to Kargil. We trusted them, but they betrayed us,'' he said and turned to the people saying that ``you can certainly ask us as to why we trusted them.''Under the Shimla pact, the LoC was demarcated and Army Generals of both the countries had put their signatures on the maps. Referring to the Pakistani stand that the LoC was not demarcated, he said that if they had any objection over it, they should have raised the issue during his meeting at Lahore.Instead, they attacked us by intruding into our territory under the cover of darkness as they had no case on the LoC, Vajpayee said. The intruders might have taken advantage of the geographical condition of the area for some time, but our forces are capable of emerging victorious over it also, he added.Vajpayee, who visited Kargil and Srinagar yesterday, said that the Indian Army hassucceeded in capturing most of the heights from Pakistani intruders in Kargil. Stressing that the remaining heights will also be taken soon, he said the morale of the Army was high despite the difficult terrain.Referring to the Pakistani shelling during his Kargil visit, the Prime Minister said that the Pakistani troops saluted him with artillery fire.
