MUMBAI, July 4: In an attempt to create better job opportunities for management students, the University of Mumbai is introducing a specialisation course in Systems Management for its two-year full-time Master's Degree Programme (MBA/MMS) from July this year.The programme will comprise technology-related topics and will be conducted at the Jamnalal Bajaj Institute of Management Studies (JBIMS) - the University department of management studies - and other recognised/affiliated institutes conducting the MMS programme in Mumbai.At a press conference jointly organised by the University and JBIMS on Saturday, pro-vice chancellor Dr Naresh Chandra said: ``It is our continuous endeavour to introduce more and more need-based programmes.'' JBIMS director Dr Vijaya Manerikar added that apart from having a paper or two in Systems Management, no other institute in India offers a full course in the subject not even the elite IIMs.Until now, students specialised in one of the four functional groups available inthe MMS course - Marketing, Finance, Operations and Personnel. Now, with the addition of Systems Management, the students can study advanced managerial topics like Programming Languages, Operating Systems and Systems Software, Data Management, Networking and Communications and IT Quality Assurance.Besides, as announced at the press conference, JBIMS has been offered an academic tie-up for operating this specialisation by the Software Technology Group in San Jose, California. It will involve setting up of state-of-the-art computer labs and classrooms at JBIMS. It will also involve bringing in international faculty from renowned universities like Golden Gate, Stanford & Berkeley under the STG Group umbrella.Global placements for JBIMS students will be part of the package.
