UDP to field ex-CM’s son in Umroi

The United Democratic Party will field former CM Late E K Mawlong's son, George, in the forthcoming byelections to the Umroi assembly constituency.

The United Democratic Party will field former Chief Minister Late E K Mawlong’s son, George, in the forthcoming byelections to the Umroi assembly constituency.

The seat fell vacant after Mawlong died on October 18 last following prolonged illness.

A party statement said that George Lyngdoh, an electronic engineer and eldest son of late Mawlong, was capable of shouldering responsibilities for welfare of the people of Umroi.

The by-poll date is yet to be announced.

While the NCP is likely to the support the UDP candidate, two other members of the ruling Meghalaya Progressive Alliance – the HSPDP and KHNAM – are understood to have been contemplating on fielding their candidates.
