At least two women were killed when Pakistani troops resorted to unprovokedshelling in Karnah sector late on Saturday.

Official sources said that Pakistani troops fired mortars and artilleryshells from across the border on civilian and security force installation inKarnah sector.

Sources said one of the shells exploded in Zoda village adjacentto the line of actual control in the sector, killing two women.

More than 100 people have died and scores of others lost theirlimbs in Pak shelling in Karnah, Keran, Teetwal, Uri and othersectors in the Jammu and Kashmir during the past three years.

Inspector General of Border Security Force (BSF) revealed that the shellingby Pakistani troops in Karnah and other areas of northern sector was aroutine matter.

He said Pakistani troops once in a while fire mortars andartillery shells from across the border. However, he said, no one wasseriously hurt adding that in the past it was observed that wheneverPakistan wanted to push infiltrators into Indian territory, they fired uponIndian pickets to provide them (infiltrators) a cover to facilitate theprocess.

“But we are there to foil all Pakistani designs to send trained militantsand arms and ammunition into our side,” he added.

He said the situation on the border was totally under control andfoot and night patrolling has been stepped up to frustrate Pakistaniattempts to push militants due to melting of snow on infiltrationroutes.
