Once again, the prestigious Sutlej Club is in news for bad reasons as some high profile members of the club got engaged in a brawl on Wednesday night.
After the incident, people from both sides have registered their complaints with the club authorities and the police.
According to some club members, requesting anonymity, around 11 pm last night former general secretary of the club G S Laddi and another reputed member Mahesh Goyal entered into heated arguments at the club bar. Both were accompanied by some of their supporters.
Goyal, a colony developer, said, “I had given a contract for the development of a colony to Krishan Kharbanda and had paid a big amount to him for the work. Kharbanda did not do much work on the project and rather asked me to pay Rs 3 lakh more. Yesterday, Laddi called me up and in a threatening tone asked me to pay this money to Kharbanda. He also dared me to come to the club to face them.”
He said, “I reached the club around 11 pm along with some of my friends and met Laddi at the bar. Laddi was accompanied by Krishan and his brother Pawan.”
I was threatened at the spot by Laddi and his companions, Goyal told Newsline.
Goyal further said that he had given written complaints to Senior Superintendent of Police R K Jaiswal and Deputy Commissioner Sumer Singh Gurjar, who is also an ex-officio president of the club.
“I have demanded action against these persons,” said Goyal. On the other hand, Laddi said, “It was not me but Goyal who had called me up and threatened me and Kharbanda.”
Krishan Kharbanda also denied the allegations levelled by Goyal. Kharbanda claimed he had to take some money from Goyal.
He said, “When I told Goyal that we were in the club, he rushed to the place with his supporters and started abusing us in the bar.”
Laddi said that he had also given a written complaint to the club authorities.
“We are also going to lodge a complaint with the police about the threats given to us by Goyal.”
Meanwhile, general secretary of the club, Yogesh Bansal, said, “We came to know about the incident from some of the members who were present there at the time.”
Bansal said they have received complaints from both the sides and that they will take appropriate action.
