MUMBAI, October 3: Two engineering students of Fr Angel Technical Institute were allegedly beaten up by a police constable with a belt at Bandra station this morning. The incident occured at around 9.30 am when Samir More and Pankaj Narendrapal Gupta were travelling in a train towards Bandra. Police constable Anant Hari Sakarkar, who was also in the same compartment, allegedly engaged in an argument with the duo after he could not alight from the train at Andheri due to the rush. When the train reached Bandra, Sakarkar allegdly whipped out his belt and beat up the two students, causing them to bleed profusely. Confirming the incident, police sub-inspector S Kulkarni told Express Newsline that a complaint has been lodged against Sakarkar, and the matter is being investigated.Pankaj's father Narendrapal Gupta said his son was bleeding from the nose after the horrific incident.``He was called to Bandra police station at around 5.30 pm to have the matter compromised. I don't want to pursue the case as my son's studies will be affected if he has to testify in court,'' said Gupta. However, Sakarkar has a different version to tell. According to him, while he was returning home after doing night duty, he over-travelled to Goregoan station instead of alighting at Andheri. But when he tried to get down at Andheri on his return journey, the two students blocked his way and passed adverse remarks. This resulted in an argument, Sakarkar added. ``I was forced to continue my journey further, but when the train reached Bandra, the duo ganged up with some more students of the same college and roughed me up. This resulted in a scuffle. The students then lodged a false complaint against me at Bandra police station, '' lamented Sakarkar.
