
NASHIK, OCT 5: Two panthers died in separate incidents in the district on Wednesday.
A young panther, crossing the busy Mumbai-Agra national highway, was killed after being hit by a speeding truck at Chandvad, a tehsil town.
Forest official sources said the four-year old male panther was 46 inches long and 32 inches high.
The animal was later buried in the jungle after a post-mortem by the forest medical officer, the sources added.
Another panther was found dead in a nullah at village Tatani in Baghlan taluka of the district, the sources said.
The animal, five feet long and two-and-half feet high, was sighted by the villagers in the nullah, who informed the forest department.
On finding the animal in discomfort, the forest department personnel informed the forest doctor. But before the doctor8217;s arrival, the panther started foaming from its mouth and died.
Doctors suspect that it died of rabies.
