As punishment for delaying Railway Minister Laloo Prasad’s train for nearly three hours during his journey to Gopalganj yesterday, Chief Controller (Traffic) of Sonepur division and a goods train driver have been suspended, rail sources said today.

Laloo was stopped at the Bada Gopalpur station in the Hajipur-Gopalganj section of Sonepur division under east central railway zone due to engine failure of a goods train. He was on his way to Gopalganj from Hajipur to meet the relatives of an RJD worker, who was shot dead in Prasad’s native Gopalganj district on Monday,

The control room had signalled the goods train on its way to Indara from Katihar ahead of Laloo’s train. The engine of the goods train failed after travelling a short distance from Bada Gopalpur station. As a result Laloo’s train which was following it was shunted for nearly three hours, the sources said.

The driver was treated at a hospital, he said. The railway police have filed a case in this connection, the drm said, adding that no arrest has been made.
