The Seoni incident was said to be in retaliation after a 15-year-old girl of the caste of the accused eloped with the victim’s 20-year-old son on July 5. Eight of the accused have been arrested while one is absconding.

The incident came up at the Lok Sabha today as Home Minister Shivraj Patil said the Government would get full information from authorities. He was replying to a query from Ramjilal Suman of the Samajwadi Party who said Dalits in Madhya Pradesh have been subjected to such indignities for a long time.
