Militants ambushed an Army convoy on Thursday morning in north Kashmir, killing two jawans. Lashkar-e-Toiba has claimed responsibility for the attack.

The Army convoy of 32 Rashtriya Rifles was on its way from Watergam to Dangiwache when militants attacked it near village Dangiwache. A Junior Commissioned Officer and another jawan were killed in the attack.

After opening fire on the convoy, militants escaped to the nearby forest. Defence spokesperson Anil Mathur said: “Soon after the attack, the Army cordoned off the area and launched an operation to track down the militants who were responsible for the attack”.

This is the third attack on an Army convoy in the last two months in North Kashmir.

Meanwhile, Lashkar spokesperson, Abdullah Gaznavi, called a local news agency in Srinagar and claimed responsibility for the attack. He said the Army had suffered heavy casualties.

Soon after the announcement, the Defence spokesperson said many militant groups did not believe in ceasefire and LeT was not a part of the United Jehad Council that had called for a ceasefire.
