Two gruesome murders were reported at Naswadi and Rangpur talukas in the tribal belt of Vadodara. In the first case, a man allegedly killed his brother-in-law at Naswadi, while at Rangpur a wife killed her husband after the latter physically assaulted her.
According to the police, one Ghunghrabhai Tapariya (35) attacked his brother-in-law, Naskar Ramji (37) when the latter was on his way to a garba function alone on Wednesday in Dhansimha village. Ramji was beaten to death on the spot. The murder weapon was a wooden log, which the assailant had used to deliver deadly blows on the deceased’s head and chest. Tapariya’s sister Pinta (23) had eloped with Ramji six months ago as per the Bhil custom. But Tapariya was against this marriage, as he had filed a complaint against Ramji in the Adivasi gram panchayat for cattle theft. He had, therefore, applied to the panchayat alleging that Ramji was morally corrupt and had abducted his sister. However, the panchayat had cleared him after the couple returned from Talav, a neighbouring adivasi tribal village.
In the other incident, Kasturi Nayak (41) of Badaliya village under Rangpur police station attacked her husband, Kalsinh Nayak, with a sharp object after being a victim of domestic violence. Sub-Inspector V L Patel said that Kalsinh would come back home drunk and beat Kasturi up. On Thursday, a scuffle ensued between the two and Kasturi killed her husband.
