Mystery shrouds the disappearance of two girls from the eastern fringes of the city.
Hemanti Das (15) is a resident of Narkeldanga and Bristi Bhattacharya (20) stays in Salt Lake. The two — students of Class X at the Kamala Vidyamandir in Narkeldanga — have been missing since Tuesday afternoon. The complaints had been filed at the Bidhannagar North and Beliaghata police stations.
After questioning the parents, police said it appears they have left home together to look for jobs. There have been altercations at both homes over monetary issues.
The complaint by Hemanti’s father Sanjib Ranjan Das states that Bristi dropped in at their home on Tuesday morning and asked permission to take Hemanti to her home. They had decided to travel by auto-rickshaw, and Hemanti asked her father to see her off at the auto- stand and left ahead of him. When Das reached the auto-stand, the girls were nowhere to be seen. Repeated calls to their cellphones went unanswered, and the phones were switched off after 5 pm, police said.
Das called up Bristi’s father, Kamal Bhattacharya, who told him that Bristi had said she was going to Hemanti’s house for a few days. The girls had given their families conflicting stories, the police said.
Hemanti’s brother said the girls had told him they were going for a job in a local hotel. Bhattacharya said Bristi had informed him that Hemanti’s father had offered them a job.
