After 46 days in captivity, two school boys Rajnish and Rahul were rescued by police from their kidnappers in a village in Bihar’s Jehanabad district, Police Superintendent Amit Lodha said.
Acting on a tip-off, a police team raided a house at Karauna village last night and got the school children freed from their captors, Lodha told reporters at Muzaffarapur. He said the kidnappers, however, managed to flee under the cover of darkness.
Rajnish and Rahul, students of standard X, were abducted by unidentified gunmen from Muzaffarpur town when they were going to school on December 16.
“The kidnappers forced the boys to take sedatives most of the time and kept them inside a room while holding them captive at the village”, Lodha said.
Meanwhile in Patna, protests persevered unabated with students offering mass prayers and a group of women continuing their relay fast for the release of school children kidnapped from different parts of the state.
“The Gandhian way of protests by the women and students would continue to press for release of the kidnapped students,” convenor of a social organisation Oxygen, which is coordinating the protests, Vinod Singh told PTI.
Singh claimed the women continued to stage relay fast at the office of the ngo while students offered mass prayers on their school campuses.
“As the final examinations are drawing close, we have advised the students to carry fruits for lunch to their schools,” Singh said. The students had earlier altogether stopped taking tiffins as a mark of protest.
