HOSHIARPUR, Aug 11: The police have arrested two Youth Akali Dal workers, who had allegedly raped a minor girl, Kuldip Kaur of Harsi village under police station Tanda, on August 8.

The accused, Sukhdev Singh and Satinder Singh, both residents of Tanda, had taken Kuldip Kaur and her brother, to Jalandhar for getting her admitted to the engineering college. There, they took them in a hotel and raped Kuldip Kaur in front of her brother. District Youth Akali Dal has expelled both the accused from the party.

Investiture ceremony today: The investiture ceremony for the award of President’s Police Medal for meritorious services for the officers and other ranks of the BSF will be held at the subsidiary training centre of the BSF at Kharkan, 15 km from here on August 12 at 11 am. The passing out parade of recruits will also be held on this occasion. Punjab Governor Lt General (retd) B.K.N. Chhibber will distribute medals and take salute from the passing out parade contingent.

Leased out: Fishing rights for six dams in Hoshiarpur district and one dam in Ropar district were leased out to fish farmers for Rs 4.09 lakh as against Rs 2.51 lakh last year. S.C. Aggarwal, director and warden of fisheries, Punjab, disclosed that the department had stocked these dams with 4.32 lakh quality fish fingerlings.
