The Election Commission (EC) has given its nod for publication of the final voters’ list for West Bengal tomorrow. This paves the way for announcement of the Assembly election dates for the State. There was apprehension among the ruling Left Front parties that the date for publication of the voters’ list may be postponed yet again. West Bengal is slated to go to the polls along with Kerala, Assam and Tamil Nadu this year.‘‘The EC has given clearance for the publication of the final rolls. The list will be put up tomorrow at all the booths except those where Madhyamik examination is going to start in the first week of March,’’ said N K Sahana, the joint chief electoral officer. There are 2,140 booths in Kolkata. The Joint CEO also appealed to all the voters to go to their respective booths and check their names. ‘‘There will be continuous updating of the rolls. So if anybody has any problem, he or she will have the option to get it corrected,’’ said Sahana.Meanwhile, the names of 4,500 people against whom non-bailable arrest warrants (NBWs) were issued by various Courts have been deleted from the electoral rolls, he added. More names will be deleted, and the figure may cross 5,000 as information regarding deletion of names under this category from two districts, Darjeeling and West Midnapore, been compiled. ‘‘We will be able to give you the complete figure tomorrow,’’ said Sahana.Since September last year, NBWs against 72,000 people had been pending in the State. The figure has come down to 56,000, as arrest warrants against the remaining have already been executed.Earlier, the EC had taken the state government to task for failing to execute the arrest warrants. North 24-Parganas leads the pack with 8,400 non-bailable warrants. Of these, the names of 800 people who could not be traced have been deleted from the voters’ list. In Kolkata, while there were NBWs against 2,426 people, 100 names were deleted.
