On a day the government said it had no objection to sportsmen displaying the Tricolour on their helmet or costume without the Ashok Chakra, Narain Karthikeyan said he hadn’t received any official word on the entire issue and would be wearing his helmet at the season-opener in Melbourne on March 6.
Narain’s helmet features the three colours and the crown sports the Chakra.
‘‘If they (government) don’t want me to sport the tricolour so be it. But I haven’t been told about it yet’’, he told The Indian Express today.
What if he did get an official instruction? He’d concur, he said, ‘‘but it’s just that I’ll be denied an opportunity to showcase my feelings for my country.’’
The other sportsmen in question are the cricketers, and today BCCI vice-president called on Home Minister Shivraj Patil, who told him the three colours were okay without the Chakra.
