PORT BLAIR, APRIL 12: Dr Debendra Pradhan, Union Minister of State for surface transport said that the centre will take all possible steps to improve and develop shipping services, the life-line of the Bay Islands.

Pradhan,speaking to newsmen said that National highway will be accorded to Andaman trunk road to provide fillip to surface transport between Portblair and Diglipur.

"The road would be widened and hurdles in the way of connecting creeks between Mayabunder and Diglipur by bridges and at Middle Andaman will be tackled soon, as RS. 10.64 crores has already been sanctioned for it", suggested Pradhan.

Bishnu Pada Ray, Andaman MP, said Pradhan has also agreed to consider on a priority basis provision of a tug boat at Mayabunder to facilitate the berthing of mainland-bound ships by August.
