The Railway and Defence Departments are now gearing up in case a war breaks out between India and Pakistan. Three special trains have been handed over to the army by the railway department at Jammu station for war victims to be sent to Ambala, Delhi and other army hospitals.
The trains will also be given separate platforms in an emergency. Two of the trains are Ambulance Special and the third’s an Army Special. Railway sources confirmed all three will have the capacity to carry 5,000 people which include the 1,500 in the Army Special.
Station Manager of the Jammu Railway Station A.K. Mittoo, said: ‘‘We need only 30 minutes to provide a platform for these trains.’’
‘‘More forces have been deployed in the 81 km long track between Lakhanpur and Jammu to keep vigil,’’ said S.P. Vaid, DIG, Railway and Crime.
Sources said the tracks between Lakhanpur and Jammu were not properly lit.
