Is there any link between ‘‘crying babies’’ and watching TV serials daily? Yes, says a study recently released here. The study conducted by Tamil Nadu Deputy Director of Health Services Dr S. Elango said mothers who were in the ninth month of pregnancy were strictly advised not to watch ‘‘tragedy serials’ as they stood the risk of delivering ‘‘night-crying babies,’’ says the study.Elango, who undertook a research on why there was an increase in the number of new-born babies that cried during the night, took for his study three groups of women who were in the 37th week of pregnancy. The first group watched TV for more than two hours at night, while the second group watched TV for half-an hour and the third group did not watch TV.The study had revealed that babies born to the first group woke up and cried about 20 times in the night. They cried even after their mother changed their nappies and fed them. ‘‘Those babies have been disturbed by some unusual feeling of insecurity. However, those babies slept well in the noon,’’ the study says.Babies in the other groups did not cry much either in the day or at night. They slept well after they were fed and nappies changed. The babies which were disturbed in the womb due to late-night sleep by mothers who watched TV serials, cried at night, says Elango.
