The amendments to the Motor Vehicles Act have been nuked. The changes are pending with the Parliamentary Standing Committeee headed by nuclear-deal-engaged CPI(M) leader Sitaram Yechury since May 15. After the Rajya Sabha referred it to the panel after its introduction, it’s been over five months and the committee is yet to find time for a clause-to-clause discussion with the ministry. In the meantime, India’s road accident fatality rate keeps soaring and the courts keep crying hoarse over the lack of traffic rules enforcement.
