The amendments to the Motor Vehicles Act have been nuked. The changes are pending with the Parliamentary Standing Committeee headed by nuclear-deal-engaged CPIM leader Sitaram Yechury since May 15. After the Rajya Sabha referred it to the panel after its introduction, it8217;s been over five months and the committee is yet to find time for a clause-to-clause discussion with the ministry. In the meantime, India8217;s road accident fatality rate keeps soaring and the courts keep crying hoarse over the lack of traffic rules enforcement.
