‘Too early to call this my best phase’

Friday’s ODI recall came as no surprise for Sourav Ganguly. Even as many have started hailing his current batting form — he smashed 122 in the Ranji Trophy against Rajasthan — as one of the best phases he’s ever had, the man himself reckons it’s too early for a judgment.

Kolkata: Friday’s ODI recall came as no surprise for Sourav Ganguly. Even as many have started hailing his current batting form — he smashed 122 in the Ranji Trophy against Rajasthan — as one of the best phases he’s ever had, the man himself reckons it’s too early for a judgment.

‘Much too early’: It’s been just two months now that I have been batting like this. Well, you can’t say after a two-month period that this is my best phase. It’s much too early take a call right now. Let’s give it one year, and then we will know if this is really my best phase.

‘Was expected’: The call was expected. I knew all along that I would get the call. I was sure of the opportunity. It’s been a 13 to 14-month wait. I have to settle down here. I am banking on my experience.

Windies in India: After the South Africa series, it’s time now that we got back to winning ways.

Batting dominance at home: For this series (versus the West Indies), batting holds the key. Whichever team bats better, will dominate. West Indies are a good side, they have a few good youngsters in the team and they are in form, and I am sure this will be a close series.

On Sachin as v-c: It’s good. As for suggestions on captaincy, if they ask for my advice, I am ready to help. Anyway, in South Africa my suggestions were taken.
