The Sankararaman murder case, in which the Kanchi Shankaracharya was arrested last month, has taken a crucial turn with Tamil Nadu Police today claiming to have arrested key accused Krishnasamy alias Appu.
Appu was arrested near Chitoor in Andhra Pradesh, and brought to Kancheepuram for interrogation late this evening, officials said.
Appu is believed to be the kingpin who organised the killing of Sankararaman, manager of the Varadaraja Perumal temple here on September 3, said sources. Eight cases are pending against Appu, police said. The Madras High Court had on November 23 stayed a single judge’s order granting him permission to go abroad for treatment.
Meanwhile, the Principal Sessions Judge in Chennai adjourned till Monday hearing on a bail application from the Shankaracharya in the Radhakrishnan assault case.
