VELLORE, June 26: The TN CM, M Karunanidhi, today launched a village development scheme, under which each assembly constituency in the State would have one model village. Inaugurating the `Anna Marumalarchi Thittam’ at Ponnai village in Ranipet Assembly constituency, he said the scheme was based on the realisation that India’s development hinged on the development of villages, which formed the backbone of the country. Ponnai will benefit from a comprehensive package of schemes costing Rs 1,21,80,000. The schemes include provision of a 24-hour water supply and setting up of a fair-price shop. Karunanidhi said the schemes at Ponnai and other selected villages would be implemented in such a manner as to ensure that surrounding hamlets also benefitted.
