
CHANDIGARH, May 3: Anirudh Mitra and Isha Toor bagged titles in the under-10 and under-12 boys and girls section, respectively, in the tennis tournament held at Chandigarh Lawn Tennis Association (CLTA) courts in Sector 10, here today.
Anirudh beat Shiva Sangwan 7-6 (10-8) while Isha outplayed Gunjeet Bains 7-6 (7-5) to wears the girls crown.
There was a close contest in both the sections to win the first place. In the boys group, Anirudh took 4-2 lead but Shiva soon caught up with his rival (6-7). However, in the tie break, Anirudh’s experience enabled him to overpower Shiva.
Both Isha and Gunjeet matched each other stroke by stroke. But Isha was less error prone and took home the title.
Paras Thakur and Simranjeet Cheema will fight for the title in the under-12 boys group.
In the semifinals today, Paras Thakur beat Sandeep Kumar 8-1 and Simranjeet Cheema defeated Vipul 8-3.
Free air ticket
Manoj Kumar Verma of the Indian Air Force (IAF) won the first prize which is free air ticket to the forthcoming cricket World Cup. The lucky draw, which was open to all Hero Honda motor-cycle owners was taken out today in the evening at Charisma Gold Wheel in Sector 8.
More than three thousand forms were distributed by the Hero Honda agency. The lucky draw will also be taken out in other cities, according to Brijinder Singh, Sales Manager, Hero Honda Motors Limited.
Carrom trials
Trials to select team for All India Civil Services carrom tournament to be held at Bangalore from May 25 to 28, will be held on May 5 at 2 p.m., at Survey of India, Complex in Sector 32.
