TIRUMALA, June 19: Health workers of the Tirumala-Tirupati Devasthanam’s (TTD) health workers went on a snap strike that lasted for five hours today. They protested TTD’s decision to hand over the maintenance of the Kalyana Katta, the tonsuring centre to a private organisation, Sulabh International, and contended that it hampered their job security. Two important departments including the Varahaswamy choultry had been handed over to private parties against the wishes of the health workers. Meanwhile, the snap strike caused a lot of inconvenience to the pilgrims as the entire sanitary operations were disrupted.
