Technology and Team India. Well, John Wright started it all, introducing Indian cricket to the whole new world of technology. And while the country’s cricketing fraternity is engrossed in the countdown to the selection of a new coach, Team India’s computer analyst S Ramakrishnan is quietly chipping away at unleashing yet another software called Timewarp.Ramky, as he is popularly known, has been around with the Indian team since one and a half years. With the persistent support of techno-savvy Wright, he weaved Silicon Coach, the video analysis software, with the team’s work ethic. And now, the nerd’s got an even savvier tool for the Men in Blue.Speaking to the Indian Express from Chennai, Ramky said: “Just introducing technology to the Indian team isn’t enough. It’s a constant developing process. Take for example the Silicon Coach. When I first introduced it in the Indian team, it was a two-dimensional software. Soon, we upgraded it to 3-D. Similarly, Timewarp is a brand new software that I am going to deploy right from the next Indian team camp (slated for sometime in July).”The computer analyst went on to explain that Timewarp is a monitoring software that would come in handy at the time of net sessions. The system requires a simple set-up — just one or two laptops, a monitor, and that’s it. Based on video feedback, the process actually entails taking video clippings of the sequences, say, a batsman playing a shot at the nets. The sequence can immediately be replayed on the monitor using the 3-D software. The long and short of it is that bowlers and batsmen get an instant look at every freaking moment of what they have been doing at the nets — and an indepth, analytical look, to be precise. Surely, its yet another novel technological marvel on the Indian team’s radar.“The idea is provide the players instant access to video-analysis clippings, so that can they get to know their faults and the finer points on the spot and without delay,” Ramakrishnan says with matter-of-factness. “This is an entirely new monitoring technique in Indian cricket. And before launching this software during the tri-series in Sri Lanka, I will try it out at the team’s camp,” he informed.
