With the DMK and MDMK having quit the NDA, and Lok Sabha elections fast approaching, an alliance with the AIADMK cannot be ruled out, BJP leader and Union Telecommunication and Information Technology Minister of State S. Thirunavukkarasar said on Monday.

Speaking to reporters in Madurai, he said there were no permanent friends or enemies in politics. Every political party would join hands at the time of elections with the sole objective of winning a majority of seats. ‘‘Let the elections be announced, our party will finalise the alliance matters,’’ he said.

In reply to a question regarding the recent decision of the DMK and MDMK to quit the NDA, he said that they had left without any valid reasons. There is no question of the image of either the PM or the BJP being tarnished by this move, he asserted.

The BJP is fully prepared to face the polls, and the question of an alliance in Tamil Nadu will be decided by the party high command, he added.

The Minister said the last four and a half years have witnessed massive development work across the country — that had not been achieved during the last 50 years. The PM remains a towering leader and there is no match for him in the country, he said. Moreover, the recent victory in the Assembly polls in the north reiterated the confidence that the people had in the BJP and Vajpayee, he pointed out.

Summing up, he blamed the regional parties — DMK and MDMK — for quitting the NDA at the fag end of the five-year term, but added that it would not have any impact on the national party.

‘‘I have nothing personal against the Tamil Nadu Chief Minister and I am bound by whatever decision the party takes,’’ Thirunavukkarasar said, in reply to a question.
