NEW DELHI, March 3: Called "political heirs" of their fathers" legacy, some retained the mantle they inherited while others fell by the wayside with only three of the eight sons in the fray making it to the Lok Sabha.

Former Prime Minister PV Narasimha Rao’s son PV Rajeshwara Rao (INC) lost by a huge margin of 1,85,910 votes to BJP’s Bandaru Dattatreya in Congress" stronghold of Secunderabad (AP).

Father Narasimha Rao was denied ticket by his party from Berhampur (Orissa) on the issue of Ayodhya.

Orissa strongman Biju Patnaik’s son Naveen Patnaik, who entered politics after his father’s death and formed the Biju Janata Dal, won from Aska constituency beating Congress nominee Chandra Sekhar Sahu by 75,000 votes.

Former Prime Minister HD Deve Gowda won from Hassan, but his son HD Kumaraswamy was pushed to the third spot in Kanakpura (Karnataka) where BJP nominee M Srinivas registered victory.

Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal’s son Sukhbir Singh Badal (SAD) made it to the Lok Sabha defeatingCongress" Jagmeet Singh by 35,028 votes in Faridkot.

K Muraleedharan, son of former Kerala Chief Minister, K Karunakaran, lost to CPI veteran V V Raghavan in Thrissur by a margin of 18,000 votes.

Former Deputy Prime Minister Devi Lal’s grandson and son of former Haryana Chief Minister OP Chautala, Ajay Chautala (Haryana Lok Dal) lost to another political heir and Haryana Vikas Party’s nominee Surinder Singh in Bhiwani. Singh, son of Chief Minister Bansi Lal, made it to the Lok Sabha by a slender margin of 4,171 votes in Bhiwani.

Devi Lal (HLD) himself lost to Haryana Congress president Bhupinder Singh Hooda by a thin margin of 383 votes in Rohtak constituency.

Devi Lal’s another son, Ranjit Singh, who was contesting on the Congress ticket, also fell on the wayside from Hissar constituency which went to Haryana Lok Dal’s Surinder Barwala.

In Gulbarga (Karnataka), former Chief Minister Veerendra Patil’s son-in-law BG Jawali failed to make his mark.

The seat went to BJP’s Basavaraj Patil Sedam whowon it with a margin of 1,31,793 votes against runner up and JD candidate Quamarul Islam.
