Rejecting the NDA’s charge that the present stand-off in Parliament worsened with Prime Minister Manmohan Singh’s statement in the Rajya Sabha, the Congress today said it was the Opposition which had spoiled the atmosphere by submitting a “false memorandum” to the President.

Congress spokesperson Anand Sharma told reporters that Singh had tried to improve the situation by making a fresh appeal after NDA submitted a ‘‘false memorandum’’ to the President. He also rejected the charge that the UPA members did not allow the Opposition to speak.

Sharma took a dig at the BJP and Akali Dal over their demand for tabling of the Nanavati Commission report in Parliament. He said in reply to a question: ‘‘Those, who are asking for it, are absent from Parliament.’’
