Bus service rides out Kargil crisis

The bus service, introduced with a lot of fanfare, did have teething troubles to start with, mostly relating to the acquisition of visas and other technical matters. In due course these matters seem to have been sorted out and officials on both sides now report a near 100 per cent load factor on the service which runs four times a week between Lahore and New Delhi. The service has come to stay with a satisfactory performance and a reliable schedule. The comparatively low fare plus the armchair view of the countryside through the old Grand Trunk road right up to New Delhi are the added attractions. Twice trade teams from the Pakistani side have used the bus, but none have come from India ever since the facility started.

Sugar, did you know about Sharif mills?

THE FRONTIER POST: The central information secretary of the Jamaat Islami, Amirul Azeen, has said that Mr Nawaz Sharif is a traitor and would meet the same fate as Mr Mujeebur Rehman, Mr Z.A.Bhutto and Mrs Indira Gandhi. Addressing a press conference, Azeen alleged that Mr Nawaz was interested in peace to get an opportunity to sell sugar manufactured by the Sharif mills to India. He said the Prime Minister sold out the sacrifices of thousands of Kashmiri freedom fighters just for trade with India, adding that Mr Nawaz struck a deal with Mr Clinton to ensure protection to his plundered wealth and industrial estate.

Chandra Shekhar ruffles Pak feathers

PAKISTAN OBSERVER: The threat of Chandra Shekhar, generally known as a person with balanced and pragmatic views on Indo-Pak relations, is reflective of the congenital hatred which the Hindus have for Pakistan. It unveils India’s ultimate designs against Pakistan as the former is yet to reconcile to its establishment as a sovereign Muslim state. It also reveals the motives of RAW’s (Research and Analysis Wing) unabated conspiracies to undermine peace and security by inciting sectarian and ethnic terrorism in different areas of Pakistan.Chandra Shekhar should understand that India, being a bully, has no moral basis behind its Line of Control.
