
Mira-Bhayandar civic body may be dissolved
THANE, January 3: The State Government has almost made up its mind to dissolve the Mira-Bhayander Municipal council in Thane district with a show cause notice being served on the Council by the Collector on behalf of the Urban Development Department.
The District Collector, Srikanth Singh8217;s notice has sent in shock waves in the political circles in the Council which has attained notoriety for various irregularities.
The Mira-Bhayander Council is headed by Gilbert Mendoca against whom offences have been registered by the police. The notice has come enquiry into after growing corruption, unauthorised constructions and other irregularities. Ironically enough, the Chief Officer of the Council has in a report to the State Government said that the leader of the BJP in the council Rohidas Patil, had been creating hurdles in the drive against removal of unauthorised constructions.
The show cause notice has been issued by the State Government after incidents theft/evasion of Octroi of several lakhs, large scale unauthorised constructions, illegal water connections, criminal elements heading various important offices, and shielding of the civic officers involved in offences of corruption.
Prior to this notice, the the govt had directed the District Collector to probe into the tenders hastily passed by the Council. The enquiry by the Collector has revealed that the bills had been paid when the road work had actually not be done, and a number of tenders had been passed hastily.
Manhunt for Sena leader
The Thane police have launched a manhunt for the Shiv Sena Pramukh of village Sakhli-Sonvalapada in Bhiwandi taluka for the alleged murder of a Shiv Sainik on the night of 31st December.
According to the police, the sainik, Balaram Tare, was done to death as a result of running feud between two groups of the Sena workers. The groups clashed on the New Year8217;s eve and Balaram was killed on the spot while Madhukar Tare, Ganpat Tare and a woman were injured. The Shakha Parmukh Patil and ten others are absconding.
