MUMBAI, JULY 13: The Thane Mayor’s Marathon, in its tenth year, will be held on July 18 at Thane. This Marathon, which forms part of the circuit, will have the additional tag of being selection trial meet to pick the Indian team for th South Asian Federation Games to be held in Khatmandu, Nepal.
Among the confirmed entries for the Marathon are Shiv Kumar Yadav, winner of two Pune Marathons, Vijay Singh, who won the Rath Marathon in 1997, Karan Singh, Bipin Kumar and Ram Kumar. The last three names are from Hyderabad Artillery Centre.
In the women’s section, which will be run over 21 kms, Satyabhama, the Western Railway athlete who holds the National record and is the silver medal winner in the Asian Marathon, will be the top draw. Sharda Govande, Harshada Joshi, Maya, Varsha Raut, Santosh Yadav and Sarita Marbade are the other big names to participate in the meet.
The women’s and boys under-21 event will be run over 21 kms. There are simultaneous events for boys and girls under-18, 16, 14 adn 12.
The winner of the men’s title gets Rs 50,000 and a rolling trophy while the women’s winner will be richer by Rs 25,000 and trophy.
