Mumbai, June 27: BS Thakur sidelined Sarod Grover 21-10, 21-10, 21-13 in a fifth-round encounter of the Maharashtra State Ranking Table Tennis tournament organised by the Mumbai Suburban District Table Tennis Association at the Khar Gymkhana on Tuesday.

Yellow wrest lead

Yellow and Orange started their Super League campaign on a winning note by beating Red and Green, respectively, in the Nagpada Cagers Association organised Monsoon Basketball League at the Bachoo Khan Municipal ground, on Monday.

Gopinath (20) top-scored in the Orange’s 68-61 win over Red. Orange were leading 43-34 at the half-time.

The second match between Yellow and Green was a low scoring affair and the former prevailed 56-51 with Siraj Ahmed (20), Sylwan Desmond (13) doing the damage.

Yellow now head the points table with Orange being pushed downed on account of inferior points scored than their rivals.

Results: Orange 68 (Gopinath 20, Matin Shaikh 19, Noor Mohammed 14) bt Red 61

(Fazil Shaikh 31, Saeed Bijapuri 10). Half-time: 43-43. Yellow 56 (Siraj Ahmed 23, Sylvan Desmond 13, Anwar Menon 10) bt Green 51 (Mansoor Shaikh 20, NB Bhosale 8, Salim Shaikh 8). Half-time: 27-31.

Miners held

Good Shepherd, who were trailing 0-1 at half-time, rallied to hold Miners 1-1 in a Division I-C match of the Mumbai District Football Association League at the St Xavier’s ground, Parel, on Wednesday.

Ramzan Shaikh gave Miners the lead and Arif Khan equalised for Good Shepherd.

A brace by Micky Fernandes enabled IDBI down Sagar SC 2-0 in a Division II-C match. Ryan International `B’ trounced BPCL Marketing 4-1 in a Division III-E encounter.

Thane District badminton

Navi Mumbai Sports Association will sponsor and organise the 14th Thane District Badminton Championship from July 10 to 15 at their courts at Vashi. This tournament will be open for players born or residing within Thane. There will be events for boys and girls under-10, 13 and 16 years of age, men’s and women’s singles and doubles and veterans doubles. Last date for entries is July 6.
