Television channels get set for World Cup extravaganza

PUNE, April 6: With less than 40 days to go before the first ball is bowled in the ICC World Cup at Lord’s, the countdown to the biggest cricketing extravaganza of this millennium has begun.

ESPN and STAR Sports, the sports channels, will give the viewers across the sub continent the highest quality coverage of the game. As a run up to the World Cup, the viewers are to be updated through features, team profiles, quizzes, panel discussions, star profiles, statistics flashback and historic matches. Briefing the press in Chennai on Monday, R K Singh, Chief Executive Officer of ESPN Software India Pvt Ltd, said that ESPN and STAR Sports will be sharing the live coverage of the 41 matches.

The sports channels have planned to have live studios in London and Singapore to bring to the viewers the most up to date information on a daily basis. Out of the 41 matches, STAR will telecast 21 matches while ESPN will telecast 20. The final match will be telecast simultaneously live on both channels. All matches will be played as day matches and play will start at 3.15 p.m IST (9.45 GMT).

However ESPN STAR Sports’ live coverage of all matches will begin at 2.30 p.m with a 45 minute preview before each game. At the end of the game there will be a 30 minute review at 11.00 p.m, he added.

The timings are the same for all matches on both channels.

Group A: England, India, Kenya, South Africa, Sri Lanka and Zimbabwe.
Group B: Australia, Bangladesh, New Zealand, Pakistan, Scotland and West Indies.
