PUNE, Feb 16: A twenty-eight year old youth died on the spot when his scooter was hit from behind on Sinhagadh Road near Jaydev Nagar yesterday evening. The police have arrested the truck driver following the accident.
Bhalchandra Godbole, a resident of Raghunandan Complex at Hingane Khurd was returning home when this accident took place at about 6.45 pm yesterday. His scooter was hit from behind by a truck carrying sand on the narrow Sinhagad road as Godbole was approaching Jaydev Nagar.
As the accident took place, the residents of Jaydev Nagar immediately informed the police who later moved Godbole to Sassoon hospital, but their efforts were in vain as Godbole who had received wounds on his head, had succumbed to his injuries before being admitted to the hospital.
The residents of nearby area pointed out that yesterday’s accident was a clear-cut fallout of a very narrow stretch of road. “A ditch has been dug by the Telecom department for cable repairing work near the spot where the accident tookplace. The 2 x 4 wide ditch has reduced the already narrow Sinhagadh road and made it much smaller in width,” felt residents. One of them also informed that the cable repair work has been going on for the last four to five months and since then the spot has become a sort of accident- prone area.
Elsewhere in Nashik, three persons were killed and 18 others injured in two separate accidents yesterday. According to reports, three persons were killed on the spot while two others injured when a jeep in which they were travelling, hit against a tree at Pengulwadi on Trimbak-Nashik road last night. The injured have been admitted to the hospital. In the second mishap, about 16 passengers including two drivers were injured when a Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation MSRTC Asiad bus in which they travelling, collided with a tanker at Musalgaon on Shiradi-Sinnar Road in Sinnar Taluka yesterday.
