Castrol-backed Marlboro Team Roberts riders Jean-Michel Bayle and Kenny Roberts Junior, arrive at the Nurburgring for the German Grand Prix this weekend full of confidence after some excellent recent results, both in the World Championship races and on the test track.
The British-based team start the second half of the 500 cc World Championship at the 4.550km Nurburgring circuit hoping to build on their recent improvements. Bayle finished eighth at the last round in Imola, just a week after Roberts had finished eighth at the Dutch Grand Prix in Assen.
With world champion, Australian Michael Doohan running away with the 500 cc World Championship, interest will be focused on whether any of the other teams can catch the Australian riders’ Honda round the circuit, which is situated in the shadow of the world famous 22.835km (14.272 miles) Nurburging track, which was last used for Grand Prix racing in 1980.
Japanese rider Norifumi Abe is looking to challenge the likes of Doohan in the second half of the season, following a year in which he has finished seventh five times so far for the Castrol supported Yamaha Team Rainey rider.
