Two weeks after dissolution of the Andhra Pradesh Assembly, the ruling TDP has decided to pursue its case with the Election Commission (EC) for early conduct of polls and deployment of additional paramilitary forces in the extremist areas of the state.
A delegation of TDP MPs will meet members of the EC to present the matter some time next week. The delegation will also try to meet Deputy Prime Minister L.K. Advani to seek more security forces for the state.
These decisions were taken at a meeting of TD Parliamentary Party (TDPP) held at NTR Bhavan today. Party supremo and Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu chaired the hour-long meeting, which also identified issues to be raised in the winter session of Parliament beginning December 2.
‘‘We want to bring to the EC’s notice the need for an early election in the state in the wake of the annual budget to be passed and other such pressing issues,’’ said TDPP leader K. Yerran Naidu.
TDP opted for dissolution of the Assembly 10 months ahead of its term after the attack on Naidu at Tirupati on October 1.
The EC, however, ruled out any possibility of elections before April plunging the political atmosphere into confusion as the annual budget has to be passed before March 31 to fulfill the Constitutional obligation.
TDP MPs would raise the issue of adequate Central relief for tackling unprecedented drought in the state during the Parliament session and seek immediate assistance. MPs were asked to raise the issue and expedite supply of 15 lakh tonnes of rice and Rs 996 crore relief to fight the drought situation prevailing in the state, party sources said.
