S. Mahalingam of Tata Consultancy Services, who was busy announcing the third quarter results of his company, was conferred with the CFO of the Year award 2006 at the 6th India CFO Awards 2006 announced by IMA. He was recognised for carrying out a role larger than that of a CFO and helping the management in giving strategic direction to the company that has been critical to the success of the company.There were five other categories for which 200 CFOs were nominated. P.K Ghose of Tata Chemicals bagged the award for the deal of the year. Ghose was awarded for his contribution in raising finance, structuring a deal and dealing with post acquisition issues. The award for excellence in finance had four sub categories — Large corporate, MNC, PSU and SME.Vishakha Mulye of ICICI Bank, the only female among the winners, bagged the award for her role in the growth of the company’s profitability, contribution towards best practices and uniqueness in her initiatives.Amit Sharma of IBM received the award better independent initiatives and practising best of the limited finance initiatives available to a CFO of an MNC. A. Velliangiri of Tamil Nadu Newsprint & Papers received the award for creativity in a sector where the companies have to work under strict policies and guidelines and finally Joy Basu of Rediff.com, bagged his award for excelling in the Small and Medium Enterprise (SME) segment. He was awarded for innovation and for the sustainability and scalability of his initiatives.
