ANANDPUR SAHIB, MARCH 22: The manager of Takht Kesgarh Sahib gurdwara, Udham Singh, has been transferred to Amritsar with effect from March 18.

Considered close to the former Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhat Committee (SGPC) chief Gurcharan Singh Tohra, his transfer was imminent with the appointment of Bibi Jagir Kaur as the new SGPC president. Confirming the development, Udham Singh told ENS that he would be relieved from the post in a day or two to join as supervisor at the Amritsar SGPC office.

Bibi Jagir Kaur had earlier ruled out "witch-hunting" of Tohra loyalists among the SGPC employees. Udham Singh, who had joined here as the manager only in August last year, was earlier posted at Amritsar as additional manager. A native of Sirhind, he was considered close to Tohra. Yesterday, when the SGPC executive committee meeting was held here, there was a hope that the orders might be reconsidered.

However, local SGPC members, including Jarnail Singh Aulakh tried to distance themselves from the issue, ending all speculations of the reversal of transfer orders.

Udham Singh, when contacted, refused to discuss the matter saying, "I’m a humble servant of the SGPC and bound to carry out my duties as per the directions of the new executive committee.”

His transfer follows the ouster of Gurdarshan Singh Bhaia as the Punjab Pollution Control Board PRO. He too was considered close to Tohra.

Earlier, Deputy Commissioner of Patiala Viswajeet Khanna, Roopnagar SSP Ranbir Singh Khatra and several other officers were transferred for their known proximity to Tohra. Sources in the SGPC here said that more transfers are expected in various gurdwaras of the district.
